Last night’s World Cup match between Germany and Paraguay left me stunned. What a disappointing result for the Germans.
Germany started the tournament strongly. In their first game, they played like true champions full of confidence, energy, and quality. But things quickly changed. Since that opening match, they have been struggling to find their rhythm.
Nobody saw a loss against Paraguay coming. Paraguay fought hard and deserved credit for their performance, but Germany simply didn’t show up at their best. The game went into extra time, where a controversial foul by Anton became a talking point. In my view, it didn’t look like an intentional push it was just a light shoulder touch. The Paraguayan goalkeeper seemed to lose his balance while turning. Still, that one moment doesn’t tell the full story.
The truth is, Germany played very average football throughout the match. Their passing lacked sharpness, their attack was blunt, and they couldn’t control the game the way we expect from them. Even if they had won, it was clear they weren’t ready to face stronger teams like France, Argentina, Spain, or England in the later stages.
All in all, this was a massive upset. Paraguay pulled off a memorable victory, while Germany will have to regroup and reflect on what went wrong.
Football is full of surprises, and nights like this remind us why we love the game. What did you think of the match?
